I heard rushing water coming from the kitchen... our brand new hickory floor was covered in about an inch of water. Apparently a pipe under the sink burst due to some faulty plumbing by whoever put it in. We estimate it was only about 15 minutes that it could have been running, but it was like someone turned on a hose under there. Despite our efforts to clean it up with a shop vac and towels, the kitchen floor was ruined, along with part of the floor in the adjoining rooms, and all the water went down the heat vent into the basement, too.
So, for the past 6 days, we have had people trooping in and out of our house, setting up giant blowers to dry things out, removing carpet pad, tearing up the floor, removing drywall, etc.
Since they tore out the kitchen floor, we decided to speed up our plan to take the wall out between the kitchen and the adjoining room... that way when they put the floor back down, they can put it all the way across and we don't have to worry about how to patch that spot of flooring where the wall was.
So here it is, in all it's glory! Luckily they didn't have to rip the cabinets out... they were saying they might have to if water got underneath them, but I guess they decided they didn't have to.
We are hoping that everything will be put back together again before our Christmas guests arrive!
